Sidra Corbin

Program Director

Sidra Corbin believes in exposure to life outside of your immediate surroundings. Born in Los Angeles, CA, growing up in the Watts area, Sidra is thankful to her mother who ensured she knew about more than what presented itself within the neighborhood. Often being exposed to generational gang violence, high incidences of crime and substance use within the area, Sidra always wondered how she could help others escape these circumstances as she had. She began to nurture this desire by pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology w/an emphasis in Sociology at Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, La. Upon graduating, she returned to Los Angeles and worked in the substance abuse and mental health fields. After working with multiple community organizations and policy makers, Sidra realized there was more to be done as the work needed often extended beyond what the human eye could see. She then returned to University of Southern California (USC) to obtain a Master's Degree in Social Work with emphases is Community Organization, Planning and Administration. She currently works as a Psychiatric Social Worker for Los Angeles County, Department of Mental Health. Sidra has experience providing program planning and development, asset mapping as well as individual and family therapy.

Sidra is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she is able to promote educational and economic development, physical and mental health and exposure to the arts.

Sidra believes wholeheartedly in the vision and mission of Beyond Our Horizon and knows that giving youth exposure to what lies beyond their immediate neighborhood, is a stepping stone to developing successful individuals, families and communities.
