Vernita Allen





Los Angeles, CA native Vernita Allen graduated from Manual Arts Senior High School. She has always had a love for youth, styling, and singing. After graduation, Vernita attended Vermont Beauty College where she earned her Cosmetology license, of which she still has today. After working as a cosmetologist for a few years, she still had a deep desire to pursue singing which was a hobby of hers in High school. At an early age, and with the encouragement of her supportive family, she auditioned to sing background for Mr. Ray Charles. Mr. Charles loved Vernita’s beautiful voice that ranged from soprano to contralto. He immediately selected her to become a Raylette. She traveled the world and performed in many esteemed venues as a Raylette for seven continuous years. Thereafter, Vernita along with her husband of three years, retired from the world of entertainment to have a family. To her union with Lew Allen was born one beautiful daughter, Jade Allen. After retiring from show business and settling down with her family, she went back to school, majoring in criminal justice and liberal studies at Southwest Community College and started a Career with the Los Angeles County Probation Department . Vernita worked with Juvenile delinquents including gang members and those with felony convictions for over 23 years. During her career with Probation, she ran special programs inside the juvenile halls that exposed the delinquent youth to a variety of educational and fun filled activities. Vernita retired from the Probation Department, as a Senior Detention Service Officer in 2008 and is ready to continue her service working with urban city youth and exposing them to new experiences.
